Big Bears lose to US college team
(June 10, 2017) - The Waseda University Big Bears suffered a 33-6 loss in an international exhibition game against the Illinois Wesleyan University Titans in front of 1650 fans at Amino Vital Field. The NCAA Division III team from Bloomington scored two touchdowns with the first two possessions and never looked back. Waseda's best offensive series of the first half (seven plays for 55 yards) ended with an interception at the IWU 27-yard line nine seconds before the end of the first quarter.
In the second half the Titans again scored touchdowns with their first two offensive possessions for a 27-0 lead and added six more points in the final minute of the third quarter with a short return after a blocked punt. The Big Bears dominated the fourth quarter, and following a fumble recovery at the IWU 29-yard line QB Haruki Sakanashi capped a 7-play drive with a 1-yard touchdown run for Waseda's only score.
